– a common principle that underlies how all medicines act. How homeopathy works and deeper understanding of how conventional medicines work.
For years we have been told that SSRIs work to relieve depression by increasing serotonin levels in the brain. Now we should all know that this chemical explanation of depression was pharmaceutical company propaganda, not based in reality. They dont know how SSRIs may work to relieve depression or how they even Cause depressive, suicidal and homicidal ideation in some people.
For conventional medical practice the mechanism of action for medicines is considered very important.
Per Wikipedia:
In pharmacology, the term mechanism of action (MOA) refers to the specific biochemical interaction through which a drug substance produces its pharmacological effect. A mechanism of action usually includes mention of the specific molecular targets to which the drug binds, such as an enzyme or [cellular] receptor.
So it is common to see references to cellular “lock and key” models, or references to enzymatic effects. The given mechanisms of action obscure how little is actually known about the actions of most drugs particularly the psychological effects. They might be able to determine some of the physiological effects, usually the ones related to the indications for the drug (e.g. how aspirin reduces fever, and may even cause fever) but there is very little accounting for the numerous psychological effects.
A theory or hypothesis is only as good as it is predictive of reality. I am going to give another hypothesis of how ALL medicines work that explains how both “homeopathic” and “conventional” medicines work whether they are diluted or Not.
In 1995 I was visiting a Vipassana meditation center in the Nashik district of the Maharashtra state of India where Mumbai is located when I was diagnosed with malaria. I read later in Asian Businessweek that 10,000 people, died there in that epidemic. The doctor offered me the famous (now infamous) chloroquine or a derivative which is all that was available then. The crazy thing about that is that some of the of chloroquine “side effects” are similar to the symptoms that I had: fever, chills, headache, diarrhea and vomiting, etc. Those around me that took that route were sick for weeks and likely had periodic recurrence of the malaria which was considered incurable then.
I went an even crazier route! I chose homeopathy. I went to a homeopathic MD in Nashik city and was given a homeopathic medicine that had “side effects” that exactly matched my symptoms on all levels – mental, physical and emotional! Within 3 days I was completely cured with no relapse.
In the 2000’s I had poison oak on three occasions. Anyone familiar with the nasty rash caused by poison oak (or ivy) knows that it is pure misery. Previously it would last two weeks without fail with a weepy rash that made me want to cut off the skin! One of the most prescribed drugs for tolerating it is Calamine lotion. The crazy thing is that Some of its “side effects” sound like bad poison oak: rash; hives; itching; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin.
And of course I went an even crazier route each time. I chose a particular homeopathic medicine whose “side effects” exactly matched my symptoms (they differed each episode) and within half an hour the itching would be gone and the next day it was as though it never happened. Since then I am almost immune to poison oak with very little response to it
If these results were isolated to me or a few it wouldn’t mean much. But the influenza pandemic of 1918 (aka Spanish Flu) was a world-wide catastrophe. But homeopathic doctors in Philadelphia recorded their results. Out of 26,000+ cases, they had 1.05% mortality . Conventional doctors typically had 10-30% patient mortality.
What I will try to demonstrate in this article is that homeopathic and conventional medicines work by the same principle; that any medicine whether diluted or full strength can cure if prescribed according to homeopathic principles. And by extension any medicine chosen on the limited pathology defined by conventional medical diseases will rarely do more than suppress/palliate symptoms temporarily. Conventional medicine is actually practicing bad homeopathy!
When discussing homeopathy people get side-tracked trying to explain or discredit extreme dilutions. But extreme dilutions, called potentization, is Not an essential aspect of homeopathy!
The essential essence of Classical homeopathy is “like cures like”; the constellation of symptoms that a single medicine will cause on all levels – mental, emotional and physical (MEP) in relatively healthy individuals, it will also cure in a sick person.
Why should you investigate Classical Homeopathy?
• There are over 220 years of clinical documentation of cures of the entire range of disease in humans & animals, even plants
• It is routine medicine in hospitals, clinics and medical schools for all conditions in
large parts of the world including India, Mexico, and parts of Europe and South America
• Properly used, there are no side effects or toxicity
• Relatively inexpensive, with low over-head
• Cures on all levels – (MEP)
My Personally Experienced Cures with Classical Homeopathy
In each case the response to the remedy was immediate and profound, not the gradual response that we might see in the normal recovery from an acute condition.
Jet lag
- instantaneous recovery from blurry vision and fatigue when I took the remedy.
Dysentery – twice; in the second case I had been suffering for 3 weeks when I finally found the right remedy and had an overnight cure. The first time I had to treat the chronic effects following an herbal treatment.
Malaria – as described above
Sprained Ankle
– I was unusually restless with the sprain. That indicated the right remedy and both the pain, swelling and restlessness were gone in about half an hour.
Poison Oak – three incidents; as described above
Food poisoning – this was actually the case of a friend. He had been going hourly for 12 hrs and we were about to leave on a rugged 7 hour bus trip from Kathmandu to Pokhara, Nepal. I gave him the remedy and he finished the entire trip only going once
Blunt injury traumas – on multiple occasions (the remedy is usually Arnica!)
This has worked very rapidly for me every time, minutes to hours. One very notable case though was when hiking with a 78 y.o. friend. He fell, hit his head and went into shock and was sitting with his head between his knees. Gave him the remedy and he was up and hiking again in about 5 minutes.
Parasites – both for times when I have been tested for it and times when I knew by the symptoms of itching, etc.
Severe Respiratory illnesses
- rapid recovery.
Digestive complaints
with severe insomnia, bleeding gums, and loss of self-confidence – these were the chronic symptoms left over from herbal treatment for dysentery 6 months prior. They cleared in several weeks.
Carpal tunnel syndrome – a burning in the wrist lasting several days from over-use of the computer mouse
that was relieved overnight. I resumed using the mouse pain-free thenceforth.
1st & 2nd Degree Burns – on many occasions for kitchen burns and sunburn; pain-free in minutes and no sign of the burn the next day.
I have not gone to a conventional doctor for anything other than diagnoses and dental issues, in over 30 years.
Conventional medical treatment has a good reputation for Emergency care. If you have an accident or a serious acute condition you want to be taken to an Emergency Room. But conventional medicine has very few cures for chronic disease. And the 3rd leading cause of death in the USA may be errors in conventional medical treatment. You need to look elsewhere for cures.
How supported by science is conventional medicine?
It is popular now to call for Evidence Based Medicine (EBM) where all treatments are based on the best scientific evidence.
The gold standard for scientific evidence is generally considered to be a randomized, placebo-controlled, double blind trial, which I will call the Controlled Clinical Trial (CCT). I joke that it is Evidently Baseless Medicine since good studies will never happen for those medicines that are off patent. It is an expensive process requiring thousands of patients, and there is no big money to be made with no patent. The US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) requires a minimum of 2 CCTs for each indication for treatment for each medicine. Perhaps half of all existing treatments will never be supported by trials.
That is why the pharmaceutical industry is trying to replace them with patented drugs in standards of care.
Even where CCTs are performed there are problems. These are well summarized in Harris Coulter’s book, The Controlled Clinical Trial which is posted on my website.
Essentially, to get good results from a CCT you need very homogeneous patients with similar symptoms and in a limited age range – excluding pregnant women, children, the very old, and those sick with other serious co-morbidities. This was done in the trials for the Covid vaccines. But the results for CCTs limited in this way don’t extrapolate well to the general heterogeneous population.
As Dr Healy points out in his book Pharmageddon, medical science has been hijacked by the pharmaceutical industry. The companies hide the “proprietary” raw data that might reveal any problems with a new medicine and only publish the sanitized “data” that they want to reveal. The term “emotional lability” was used to hide suicidal thoughts or attempts in Paxil trials. Participants who left the trials due to adverse events were not included in the “data”.
Frequently published studies are ghostwritten by pharma hired writers and signed off on by eminent academics who may not even vet the result. With enough trial participants the drug companies can find some data point allowing them to claim the drug “works”, whether or not it is leads to a longer healthier life for the patient. Multi-billion sales drugs like Statins are shortening life-spans. Older drugs are being replaced by new 100x more expensive patented drugs that may be even less effective.
“And companies can ensure their drug never causes anything by making sure that trials are organized so that important adverse events cannot become statistically significant.”
– Dr David Healy, Pharmageddon
Dr Healy is not the only one to notice these problems in modern medicine.
“Similar conflicts of interest and biases exist in virtually every field of medicine, particularly those that rely heavily on drugs or devices. It is simply no longer possible to believe much of the clinical research that is published, or to rely on the judgment of trusted physicians or authoritative medical guidelines. I take no pleasure in this conclusion, which I reached slowly and reluctantly over my two decades as an editor of
The New England Journal of Medicine .”
– Dr Marcia Angell, 2009
“The case against science is straightforward: much of the scientific literature, perhaps half, may simply be untrue. Afflicted by studies with small sample sizes, tiny effects, invalid exploratory analyses, and flagrant conflicts of interest, together with an obsession for pursuing fashionable trends of dubious importance, science has taken a turn towards darkness. As one participant put it, ‘poor methods get results’.”
– Dr. Richard Horton, editor-in-chief Lancet, Apr 11, 2015 editorial
And there are problems with research more generally:
“Simulations show that for most study designs and settings, it is more likely for a research claim to be false than true. Moreover, for many current scientific fields, claimed research findings may often be simply accurate measures of the prevailing bias.”
– Dr John Ioannidis, PLOS Medicine, Aug 2005,
”Why Most Published Research Findings Are False”
And then there is the expense…
Why is conventional medicine so expensive? Well, of course, there are many reasons but there is one not usually discussed. Most of the world is subject to a medical monopoly of conventional medicine. In the USA at the turn of the 19th – 20th centuries competing schools of medicine – homeopathic, herbal, etc. – were kicked out of the medical schools and hospitals. The American Medical Association, which is a doctor’s trade union financed heavily by the pharmaceutical companies, prevented its members from even consulting with other doctors not in the club. The USA state medical boards also excluded competing traditions of medicine. The Carnegies & Rockefellers who own many of the pharmaceutical companies used their foundations to orchestrate this coup. As all monopolies do, they used their market power to drive up the cost of medicine. Interesting fact: John D. Rockefeller’s medicine of preference was homeopathy until he died at the ripe age of 98 in 1937.
In some parts of the world there are competing systems of medicine. India has three systems of medicine, homeopathic, ayurvedic and conventional, and all three have pharmacies, medical schools and MDs with hospital privileges. So medical care in India is relatively affordable.
Even someone who completely rejects homeopathy for themselves should value its availability for others, to provide competition to keep medical care costs down.
Conventional medicine is expensive and has serious problems. While Homeopathy is a safe and effective medicine that can potentially cure any disease. It has a 220+ year history well documented to do just that. Everyone should take an interest in that possibility!
In order to cure a sick person, why is it necessary to pick a medicine that causes similar symptoms in healthy people? The principle by which homeopathic medicines are used is “Like cures Like” i.e. the constellation of symptoms – mental, emotional and physical (MEP) – that a medicine causes in healthy people it will cure in a sick person.
The Basic Principles of Classical Homeopathy, explained in Dr Hahnemann’s Organon of Medicine.
1. The disease is defined as ALL the symptoms an individual is experiencing on all levels (MEP).
2. All medicines and any individual’s disease act on all levels (MEP) i.e. there are no purely “physical” or “mental” diseases.
3. A medicine is homeopathic for an individual’s disease if it causes a similar constellation of
symptoms (MEP) in relatively healthy people.
4. “Homeopathic provings”, the foundation of homeopathy, are a process whereby medicines are tested on multiple healthy volunteers to determine in extensive detail their effects (MEP).
5. This information derived from these provings and clinical practice are used to find a medicine similar on all levels (MEP) to an
individual’s disease, which will be curative on all levels (MEP).
6. The minimum dose of the medicine is used to achieve the desired curative results.
Dr Hahnemann gives directions on how to create homeopathic remedies using dilutions in his Organon of Medicine, but does not give any requirement for how dilute remedies should be. Many homeopaths use very low dilutions and still get good results.
Also notice that homeopathy attempts to cure. Conventional medicine is very careful to not mention or use the term cure. That is forbidden since conventional medicine doesnt cure; it largely palliates or suppresses symptoms.
It is not sufficient to pick one or two or a small handful of symptoms to match the medicine to the individual’s disease. There must be a significant overlap for the medicine to be homeopathic to the disease. Therefore one needs an extensive knowledge of the individual’s disease state on all levels (MEP) and the medicine’s effects on all levels (MEP).
This is not such a strange concept! ALL Conventional medicines have as “side effects” the very symptoms that they are indicated for! For example, Aspirin can cause headaches in people taking it for other reasons, radiation can cause & sometimes cure cancer, Ritalin is an “upper” that can cause ADHD type symptoms that it is indicated for, SSRIs used to treat depression can also cause depressive, suicidal and homicidal ideation. I will discuss this more later.
To acquire the necessary extensive detailed medicinal knowledge, homeopathic provings are performed which are the foundation of homeopathy.
A homeopathic proving is a scientific experiment for learning the utility of a new medicine in homeopathic practice. Relatively healthy volunteers first do a survey of their health history with a supervisor. Then they take an unknown medicine repeatedly over several days – without communicating with each other. Details of new never-before experienced mental, emotional & physical (MEP) symptoms caused by the medicine are reported and carefully recorded by the supervisor. These new symptoms wear off some time after they stop taking the medicine.
Everyone has unique sensitivity to the same medicine so a more complete picture of medicinal effects is determined by combining all the provers’ experiences.
Homeopathic provings are repeatable. Dr Hahnemann’s proving of Belladonna with his colleagues was repeated 100 years later with same results. Anyone can repeat this process. And many have been done so over the years. I encourage anyone to try it for themselves who is skeptical.
Critics of homeopathy claim that the proving process must bring in many extraneous unrelated symptoms that occur in the provers’ lives. This has not been found to be the case. But in any event, its a self-correcting process. Symptoms that are found frequently in cured cases using the medicine become prominent in the information about the medicine, known as the materia medica. And symptoms that dont appear in practice are downgraded and ultimately ignored.
A similar process for medicines occurs in conventional medicine with an accumulation of side effect reports from clinical trials and later clinical reports, although the details they record are not so precise. Erections were originally a “side effect” of the drug now called Viagra.
Why is the similarity of the symptoms caused in healthy people by the medicine essential for its curative effect in the sick? How can that be possible?
To demonstrate I will use a diagram of a simplified three dimensional representation of the multidimensional field of individual health. The three axes are mental, emotional and physical health.
It is important to note that an individual’s disease pushes them away from a state of health always acting on all levels, MEP.
They may not be aware of some of the aspects. The mental/emotional aspects may be as subtle as just feeling not as sharp, bad dreams, anger or apathy. The physical component might be as simple as fatigue or sleep problems
1. All medicines have a unique Primary Action on all levels – mental, emotional and physical (MEP)…. and when it wears off…
2. There is Secondary Reaction in the “opposite” direction
3. Then the individual returns to their former state of health.
Take for example Coffee and Ambien, which are very popular in our society. Be very clear that I am just choosing a few prominent symptoms of these drugs, that effect some people. You could write a book listing in detail all the effects of each.
Above is listed an extremely limited simplified summary of possible primary and secondary reactions of these two common medicines, Coffee and Ambien. Your results may vary! Coffee is normally considered an “upper” while Ambien can be used as a sleeping pill.
There is a continuum from very similar i.e. homeopathic to very dissimilar medicines for any individual’s disease. A similar medicine causes a similar constellation of symptoms (MEP) in healthy people that it also cures in the sick individual.
A dissimilar medicine causes none of the symptoms that the sick individual is experiencing. A weak dose will have no noticeable effect. A strong dose over-powers and suppresses individual’s disease. It creates a “medicinal disease” expressing only effects of the medicine e.g. some types of chemotherapy for cancer. If it wears off, individual’s disease reasserts itself (when their strength returns).
The Effects of a Dissimilar (i.e. not homeopathic) Medicine
1. Primary Action of a strong dissimilar medicine creates new symptoms
2. Secondary Reaction of the individual, when it wears off, pushes back in the opposite direction possibly with new symptoms
3. Then they usually return to their former state of health.
The Effects of a Partially Similar Medicine
1. A medicine that is partially similar, ie not fully homeopathic,
has some effects in common with the individual’s disease symptoms. It suppresses or palliates those symptoms in common and in addition
creates other effects (called “side effects”) temporarily, while the medicine acts.
2. The Secondary Reaction of the individual, when it wears off pushes back in the opposite direction which may also palliate due to some similarity, or create new symptoms.
3. Then they usually return to their former state of health.
Every medicine used in a conventional medical context has known “side effects” that match the symptoms of the conventionally defined diseases it is meant to treat. Conventionally medicines are prescribed only on the small set of common symptoms of the conventionally defined disease, so it is almost always partially similar to the individual’s complete disease picture. Medicines so prescribed have numerous potential “side effects” (MEP) unrelated to the individual’s disease, like mental & emotional “side effects” for a drug meant for a conventional physical disease.
Ambien is conventionally prescribed for insomnia because it causes drowsiness. The Primary Action of a partially homeopathic medicine like Ambien palliates or suppresses common disease symptoms but also causes other “side effects” for example, memory loss. The individual’s Secondary Reaction pushes back in the opposite direction when Ambien wears off overnight. Insomnia returns the next evening as the individual returns to their former state of ill-health.
The Effects of a Homeopathic Medicine or Remedy
1. The Primary Action of a homeopathic medicine gives a push in the same direction as the individual’s natural disease, to which it is similar on all levels (MEP) … and when it wears off…
2. The Secondary Reaction of the individual pushes back in the opposite direction towards a healthy state on all levels (MEP) inducing a strong curative response in bodies that are naturally predisposed to attempt to heal themselves.
Example of a case of an individual who had insomnia among other symptoms. Ambien provided temporary palliation for her insomnia because the medicine was partially similar to her entire symptom picture. Note that Insomnia also happens to be a “side effect” of Ambien. It can cause insomnia in those who dont already have that symptom! By referring back to the earlier simple summary you can see that Coffee was curative because it matched her symptoms on all levels, MEP; it was homeopathic to her condition: wired-awake, emotionally sensitive and diarrhea.
Every medicine used in the conventional medical context has as side effects, the very symptoms for which it is used in conventional treatments. The meaning of “side effects” is symptoms that have been caused in individuals who don’t already have those symptoms. Here is a page that lists 50 of the most commonly used conventional medicines. It gives the generic and commercial names, what symptoms it is used to treat, and the side effects that are the same as the treatment symptoms.
All effective conventional medicines typically palliate or temporarily suppress symptoms because they are partially homeopathic i.e. they have side-effects matching the symptoms they are meant to treat, but are usually not a match in other ways so they are usually not fully homeopathic to the individual’s disease. Most of the time the medicine has to be repeated on a regular basis to palliate because it is partially similar. Occasionally conventional doctors accidentally give a medicine that is fully homeopathic i.e. similar, and it is curative.
What are the principles of conventional medicinal treatment?
1. Identification of a disease by a limited set of symptoms common to everyone supposed to have the disease.
2. Development of biomarker tests for those having the disease.
3. Finding a medicine, to eliminate or relieve these common symptoms, with tolerable “side effects”
4. Verification that biomarkers have returned to normal or tolerable range while taking the medicine.
5. Declaration of success.
If you are targeting a medicine at only a limited number of symptoms, those common to the disease, then most likely the medicine does not match the remaining symptoms (MEP) of the individual. So it is partially homeopathic, and will be temporarily palliative, not curative.
To remind you, I will show the effects of a fully homeopathic and partially homeopathic medicine using a Venn diagram of the entire field of mental, emotional and physical symptoms
Effect of a Partially Similar Medicine
1. Primary Action of the medicine creates new symptoms and may palliate some existing ones.
2. Secondary Reaction after the medicine wears off, creates new symptoms and may palliate some existing ones.
3. Return to the original state of health
Effect of a Homeopathic Medicine that is Curative
1. Primary Action of the medicine acting in a similar way as the disease on all levels (MEP)
2. Secondary Reaction in the opposite direction on all levels (MEP) pushing back towards a cure
A partially similar medicine will only temporarily palliate or suppress symptoms.
The curative nature of a medicine
is dependent on how similar or homeopathic it is to the individual’s disease.
At this point you may have some appreciation for why “Like cures Like”, the basic principle of homeopathy, has support. There is some common sense behind it. Next I will discuss another principle of homeopathy, the dilution of the remedies, which makes it extremely controversial; the bridge too far for the so-called skeptics who don’t seriously investigate homeopathy. I hope you Can continue to follow this discussion.
Extreme Dilution or “Potentization” of Homeopathic Remedies
(Evidence for their power and a proposed mechanism)
Until now I have made no distinction between conventional medicines and “homeopathically prepared” medicines which are extremely diluted. They have the same types of effects. But the dilution makes people skeptical of homeopathy
You should be skeptical of homeopathy, but you can be a real skeptic! You can try it out for yourself. But get professional help for chronic and serious acute conditions!I encourage people to try homeopathy themselves for simple acute conditions.
Also be a skeptic of the media – media discussing both mainstream and alternative medicines. 70% of mainstream media (MSM) advertising dollars are from big pharmaceutical companies including Pfizer and Merck. Jimmy Wales, co-founder of Wikipedia, is an outspoken opponent of all alternative medicine which has overtly biased coverage in Wikipedia; no defense is permitted by the tightly controlled editing process.
But what about all the science that supposedly shows homeopathy does not work?
There have been a number of studies that show homeopathy works and others that are inconclusive or dont show benefit. Meta-analyses attempt to assess the various studies and decide what the over-all conclusion should be.
A frequently referenced meta-analysis was done by Sheng et al. published in the journal Lancet in 2005. It claimed that it had looked at 115 papers and concluded that homeopathy was no better than placebo. A closer look determined that they had only considered 8 homeopathy studies to be worthy of inclusion in their results. There are a number of flaws in this study which can be referenced here.
In 2015 the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council published a paper that concluded that “….there are no health conditions for which there is reliable evidence that homeopathy is effective.” This was widely heralded as the death-knell for homeopathy. Ironically the scientist who wrote their study guidelines had come to a more balanced conclusion but his paper was thrown out, and the study was re-written to come to it’s conclusion.
A study, Mathie et. al. 2014 found that homeopathic medicines, when prescribed during individualised treatment, are 1.5 to 2.0 times more likely to have a beneficial effect than placebo
“… meta-analyses can arrive at different conclusions despite being based on virtually the same material. They are not performed according to strict methodology and are, to a variable extent, guided by creativity, interpretation, and personal bias. This is why everyone can find arguments for and against homeopathy in the meta-analyses of the pooled clinical data.”
– Dr Rober Hahn, MD, PhD, 2013,
“Homeopathy: Meta-Analyses of Pooled Clinical Data”.
Dr Hahn is not a homeopath. He also said that Sheng et. al. had to disregard more than 90% of the available clinical trials of homeopathy to conclude that homeopathy lacked clinical effect.
So make up your own mind about the validity of the science behind both homeopathy and conventional medicine. I would urge you to trust your own experience of homeopathy.
If you accept the evidence behind conventional medicine which in large part is made up of clinical reports unsupported by clinical studies, then you should be willing to consider 220+ years of well documented clinical evidence supporting the efficacy of homeopathy.
Extreme Dilution or “Potentization” of Homeopathic Remedies
Originally Dr. Hahnemann, founder of homeopathy, cured with drop doses of the undiluted medicines. But he recognized the need to reduce medicine toxicity for sick patients. He started serially diluting the medicines, repeatedly diluting them 1:100, 1:100, etc. Serendipitously “succussion” ( i.e. pounding) of the remedies occurred as he rode in carriages and on horseback to visit clients. He realized that more dilution of “remedies” was causing paradoxically a stronger effect on the patients! Remedies can be diluted and succussed even beyond where none of substance remains but become more powerful in the process. Dr Hahnemann called the process “potentization.”
Dr Hahnemann was a well-respected chemist in his day. He knew Avogadro’s principle, that at a high degree of dilution no substance remained. His conclusion was that some unknown energetic effect was acting. Even largely “inert” substances have medicinal effects when potentized e.g. sea salt, oyster shell, mineral water, etc. all make powerful remedies. This is a universal property of matter that anyone can experience by doing a homeopathic proving!
Placebo effect?
Placebo effect is a phenomenon in which someone experiences a benefit after the administration of an inactive substance or treatment. But the results are temporary (with rare exceptions) and not curative i.e. last only while taking the placebo. They are not beneficial long term for chronic diseases after the patient stops taking them. Results are limited to a few conditions, mostly those with a large psychological component, like pain.
The conventional view of homeopathy is that it is merely a placebo effect since the remedies are usually extremely diluted and therefore it would seem to violate known principles of physics, chemistry and biology. Those without experience (including me initially) think it must be placebo. It is the primary reason that homeopathy is so controversial in the medical and scientific community. It could be completely dismissed if doctors around the world weren’t reporting amazing results for the last 220 plus years for all manner of diseases – acute and even “incurable” chronic diseases.
Many proponents claim that homeopathic remedies work by obscure physico-chemical properties like nano-particles or the electro-magnetic properties of water. Water is a polar molecule (positive hydrogen and negative oxygen atoms combined) and there is some evidence structures can form due to the orientation of the molecules and slight changes in molecular bond angles. But none of that is incontrovertibly proven. Some, including the late Nobel laureate Luc Montaigner, claim they have recorded electro-magnetic signals stored in water. This is derisively called the “memory of water” by the skeptics.
Recently scientists have shown that morphogenesis (structure formation) in living beings is NOT a function of genetics. There is a third means of inheritance from generation to generation beyond genetics and epigenetics. There is subtle electrical signaling that directs stem cell differentiation and the formation of organs. This electrical signaling can be passed down from generation to generation without any changes in the genetics. They have manipulated this subtle signaling to create two headed planeria worms that have off-spring that are also two headed, even though the genetics is unchanged compared to the normal single-headed worms. Perhaps the EMF signal in homeopathic remedies effects this electrical cellular signaling.
Doctors and scientists wedded to the mechanistic paradigm cannot possibly accept homeopathy. It seems implausible because of the extreme dilution and it doesn’t yet have a known mechanism of action. Therefore they assume it must be merely a placebo effect, without bothering to investigate.
But there are many natural phenomena that science can’t explain. They are known by their effects!
• Life itself: Living vs. Non-living
• Consciousness
• On the micro-scale of the universe: the proton/electron attraction
• On the macro-scale of the universe:
Dark Energy (25% of Universe),
Dark Matter (85%)
The real power of potentized homeopathic remedies are known by their effect on complicated living beings.
Thousands of homeopathic provings have been done over the last 220 years and uniformly they demonstrate the strong effect that these diluted remedies have on human mental, emotional and physical health. Its an experiment that any skeptical individual can perform.
Homeopathy is not placebo. There are over 220 years of well documented cures in the homeopathy literature.
• Long-term cures of a wide range of chronic diseases
• Rapid cures of severe acute diseases and epidemics
• Cures of deep mental, emotional and physical diseases
“…cells have a history – something like memories of what they have metabolized in the past. Those “memories” are encoded NOT in the cells’ DNA but somewhere else …, so it may be misguided to think in terms of swapping genetic programs in and out of cell “bags.” The willingness of a physicist …, to talk about the “memories” and “interests” of biological systems is surprising. But it reflects a larger shift among synthetic biologists away from a belief in the fundamentally mechanical nature of life.”
– Amia Srinivasan, “Busy Bodies”, in The New Yorker magazine , Sept 17, 2018,
You can seek out additional evidence that the effect of extremely dilute potentized remedies is not placebo effect:
1. Laboratory Investigations of physical properties
• A weak electromagnetic field in water with a remedy was demonstrated by Nobel laureate Dr Montagnier, Dr Benveniste and other labs. Water is a polar (+/-) molecule.
• Studies report finding nano-particles in remedies
• Changes in the absorbance of solvatochromic dyes has been reported
These phenomena do not explain the mechanism of action of an extremely dilute remedy’s comprehensive mental, emotional and physical effects. I believe, like Dr. Hahnemann, that there is some unknown energy at work. Therefore the known laws of biology, physics and chemistry are not violated.
2. Laboratory experiments have been done on leukocytes, mice, frogs, cell lines, plants, etc.
• Increased cell viability exposed to toxins
• Altered gene expression
• Reduced genotoxicity and cytotoxicity
• Improved growth rate of toxin exposed plants
• And other lab effects
3. Homeopathy is Effective with Non-Verbal Beings
• Babies
• Animals (e.g. pets, herd animals, etc.)
• Plants
Biodynamic, organic farmers and ranchers use homeopathy for pests and diseases. They depend on it for their livelihood!
You can try it yourself. Try the homeopathic remedy Pullsatilla for your rescue or grieving pet.
Here are a few of the many possible indications for Pulsatilla:
• Clings to caregiver
• Fear abandonment
• Wants consolation
• Timid
• Many fears including of males and darkness
• Very changeable moods
• Symptoms better in open air
Go to this site for more information about Pulsatilla
4. Homeopathic “Aggravations”
In well documented long-term cures the patient’s symptoms sometimes worsen initially after starting treatment. This occurs when the remedy was given in too strong a dose, too potentized (i.e. too dilute!). The Primary Action of the remedy was too strong, acting in a similar manner to the disease, to worsen their symptoms, before the Secondary Reaction led to a cure.
5. Do a Homeopathic Proving.
Any reasonably healthy person who is skeptical of the power of dilute remedies can do a proving themselves or participate in one organized by others.
• Document your recent health history with an independent observer in rich detail.
e.g. headaches every few months with a burning pain, on the front left side, starting an hour after eating breakfast, worse from bright light and motion, better from closing eyes, pain extends down into your shoulder.
• Take an unknown-to-you, highly potentized remedy repeatedly for several days
• Stop taking it when you temporarily experience new mental, emotional Or physical (MEP) symptoms.
• Carefully record your new symptoms in rich detail: Side of the body, time of day, what makes the symptoms better or worse, location(s) of the symptom (e.g. spreads down my leg), the type of sensation (e.g. burning, throbbing pain)
• Wait until any new symptoms wear off in a couple weeks.
This is a repeatable experiment although the precise symptoms experienced may change and will be somewhat different for different people. There is no lasting effect. Modern homeopathic provings are done with extremely dilute remedies with no toxicity. Doing a proving have been found to be actually beneficial, even strengthening the organism.
You can compare your results in the proving to those that have been recorded in the homeopathic literature for the same remedy and you will see how closely comparable the results are, and how unique they are for that remedy/medicine.
6. Treat simple acute conditions and see rapid cures.
• With a First Aid Homeopathy book and a few remedies you can try treating yourself for some easy to treat conditions such as:
• minor burns
• minor blunt trauma injuries
• insect bites
• food poisoning
Any of these can be treated before you head off to the Emergency Treatment Center. Maybe you will recover and be able to turn around and return home without treatment!
7. Get Chronic Health Treatment
• Seek out a well recommended professional homeopath and get treatment. See deep lasting improvements in your health. Be sure to be Very skeptical!
NOTE: Be sure to get professional help especially for chronic & serious acute conditions! I do encourage people to try homeopathy themselves for simple acute conditions.
So how do I account for a homeopathic remedy devoid of the original substance having such powerful effects?
Understanding consciousness is one of the difficult problems of science that may never be solved. There are three main schools of thought about consciousness. One is that mind and body are completely separate and somehow influence each other “at a distance”. Another is that biological compounds form in the universe and when they reach a certain level of complexity, consciousness magically “emerges”.
One of the more popular theories now is Panpsychism. It posits that consciousness is just a universal property of matter like gravity, or the charge of electrons & protons. I think this latter theory fits very well with the evidence that has been discovered from doing homeopathic provings. Consciousness seems to be “concentrated” or tuned up in the potentized remedies. Perhaps they act like antennae to tune into the powerful conscious energies in the universe.
In summary, if you doubt the power of extremely dilute potentized remedies you can:
1. Research the properties of remedies.
2. Research the effects in lab experiments.
3. See the effectiveness in non-verbal babies, animals & plants.
4. See the temporary worsening of symptoms prior to cure (Homeopathic Aggravations).
5. Do a (preferably supervised) Homeopathic Proving: i.e. take a remedy repeatedly over several days until you temporarily experience new symptoms (MEP).
6. Treat yourself for simple acute illnesses: minor burns, minor injuries, insect bites, etc.
7. Get treatment from professionals for chronic and serious acute conditions and experience deep lasting cures.
In summary Conventional Medical Science doesn’t have all answers and is corrupted by the pharmaceutical industry. Conventional medicine is deeply troubled. While it manages many acute conditions like some emergencies well, dont look to it for cures of chronic disease. It only claims to provide palliation/suppression of symptoms in all but very few diseases.
• Homeopathy is known by its effects – mental, emotional and physical – on complex living beings through Homeopathic Provings and the principle that Like Cures Like
• The curative nature of a medicine or remedy is dependent on how similar or homeopathic it’s effects on the healthy are to the individual’s total disease picture, mental, emotional and physical.
• Medicines prescribed for conventional disease indications, and which are partially similar/homeopathic to the individual’s disease cause temporary palliation or suppression with side effects.
• Homeopathy uses the Secondary Reaction of the individual in response to fully homeopathic medicines/remedies, leading to amelioration or cure on all levels – mental, emotional and physical.
•
Homeopathy has over 220 years of well documented clinical cures for serious acute and even “incurable” chronic diseases.
